Liberty Is a wonderful word often misunderstood. Liberty is the virtue for which mankind have struggled eternally. Great men of past have advanced this quest with their wisdom and valour. History proves liberty has enabled syncretism in the great civilizations and which was the essential fabric of that era and was the offshoot of the liberty. Basically civilizations thrived under the auspice of liberty. Liberty enabled the demand for egalitarian societies. Numerous of cavaliers sacrificed their lives for the sake of liberty.
Liberty wherein remains mystic for the prosaic mind. All the wrongdoings were guised under the name of liberty, and hierarchical class made it a prerogative for their egregious acts. And if the liberty were continuously offered to them could have imperilled our own existence, ergo some arrangements were formed into place. To avoid the fall of our history into dystopia, a lot of the elements were ostracised or obliterated. All this was overcome by humanity to achieve a utopian state per se.
It is self-evident why men like Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela were canonized by humanity. Because they strived to create redoubts of liberal expositions in a chaotic world shone like a candle in dark. Men like them show the humanity path forward irrespective of the inherent prejudices existing in society which consumed them in the end.
So the notion “liberty is for the liberals” represents the facts, sacrifices and the struggle of past many centuries to achieve the current state of prosperity and liberalism. But the rising state of protectionism in the developed world is alarming and harming per se.
Liberty is a state of mind, heart and soul, free from prejudices of state, cast, creed, and race. Liberty has to be achieved not snatched. Liberty results in prosperous states and its inhabitants. Liberty can be cashed by anyone until its intentions are not to harm others. Extremism is counter -productive and challenge humanity as seen in Syria. So to gain liberty one has to be liberal at first. Humble to others needs and always open hearted and welcoming everyone from any part of the world. After all this earth belongs to all of us, and may be divided politically but not liberally. So let’s just step forward in the direction of liberty.
